I still can’t figure out exactly who this movie is for. Is it for you? The Lone Ranger seems like a picture without an audience – the Western craze died out years ago, and Johnny Depp’s pretty much pissed away any goodwill he ever had at the box office. And yet… and yet, Gore Verbinski’s update of the classic masked hero is actually looking pretty compelling. Maybe it’s because I just watched the first season of Hell On Wheels on Netflix or something, but I’m actually in the mood for more Wild West funtime. This trailer’s actually pretty cool, too, eschewing quick cuts for a great set-up of the Ranger and Tonto’s first meeting. The Lone Ranger opens on July 3, 2013.
