Groupon CEO compares being fired to playing ‘Battletoads’

Did the ousted co-founder of Groupon, the deal-of-the-day website, reference an old Nintendo game in his goodbye letter? Why yes he did.

Like many, I read the letter that Groupon CEO Andrew Mason issued upon his dismissal, despite the fact that I’ve never used the service, nor do I personally know anyone who does (seems to be the kind of stuff housewives in the midwest are into, quite frankly) when it first hit.

Unfortunately I didn’t pay too close attention because there’s a Battletoads reference, which I only picked up on when Wired highlighted it the second time around

I’m OK with having failed at this part of the journey. If Groupon was Battletoads, it would be like I made it all the way to the Terra Tubes without dying on my first ever play through.

As Wires also explains, to those of you who did not grow up with Battletoads, it’s one of the most goddamn hardest part of a game that was already mind-numbingly difficult…

I have no shame in admitting that I was never able to even get to that point in the game, which is fairly late in the game. But I never had the balls to become CEO of my own daily deals website and brush off Google when they came knocking on my door with a truckload of money.

Anyhow, time for an oldie but a goodie, of Bill O’Reilly not being able to get past even the third stage…
