For their next console, Sony is thinking of ditching their classic controller design, which pretty much everyone loves to death and is basically an industry standard. Again.
In case anyone has noticed, I really haven’t spent much time re-posting and commenting on rumors as they pertain to the next generation of consoles, the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4, or whatever they might end up being actually called.
Why? Because most of it has been fairly pedestrian and boring. Except for the following: according to various sources, Sony is thinking of dropping the DualShock design for their next system.
Apparently, the key feature of the new controller is an LCD screen, for what’s been described as a Vita-like experience. Which sounds an awful like what the Wii U has going on as well.
This is not the first time in which Sony has tried to replace the Dual Shock. Remember this abomination that was originally supposed to accompany the PS3?
That’s not some goofy third party effort, it’s a real thing from Sony. At any rate, at least they have something solid to work towards, if they do indeed dump the classic Dual Shock design. Again, just flat out ripping off the Wii U’s GamePad.
Though if it was just basically Vita in shape and size and feel, that wouldn’t be so bad either. Still, the DualShock is still one of the best controller designs ever, so it’s a shame to think that it’s being retired.
