Jim Harbaugh dove into a pile of players to stop a fight at practice because that’s what head coaches who have temper tantrums do. The fight occurred between two defensive backs vying for a starting position on the squad.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, C.J. Spillman threw a punch at Michael Thomas before the players wrestled each other to the ground. Several others jumped in to break up the melee to no avail. That’s when Harbaugh stepped up and no joke, swan dove into the pile.
Spillman was ejected from practice and headed to the locker room. Thomas stayed on, finished practice.
Looks like somebody a game misconduct on an instigator penalty.
Fights are quite common in training camp. In fact, there are coaches who secretly enjoy them, knowing they bring out the best in players. So the fight itself here is hardly news. Jim Harbaugh diving into piles however? Well, that’s just damn amusing. Too bad there isn’t video. You’ll have to settle for this Jim Harbaugh GIF as a consolation prize.
