This movie was so controversial it was buried for decades. You’re about to find out why. In the world of Hollywood atrocities, no movie is as famous as Jerry Lewis’s The Day The Clown Cried. Filmed in 1972, it stars Lewis as a German circus clown named Helmut Doork who is imprisoned in a concentration camp for mocking Hitler. He begins to perform for Jewish children and eventually leads them, Pied Piper-like, to the gas chambers at Auschwitz. The few people who have seen it (Lewis demanded all copies be destroyed) say it’s one of the most intensely weird flicks ever made. Six minutes of “Making Of” footage just showed up on a Dutch TV special and it’s really something.
