This guy basically invented trash TV, we should know more about him. Morton Downey Jr. was one of the most famous faves of daytime TV in the late 1980s. In contrast to Phil Donahue, who kept a level head even with the most horrible of guests, Downey was a volcano of hatred and invective, opening up on the poor saps who came on his show while chain-smoking and screaming. Magnolia is releasing Evocateur, a new documentary that examines the complex and tormented soul that he was, from his early days in local media to his death in 2001. Evocateur opens on June 7th.
