Leonardo DiCaprio is Gatsby. Romeo reminds you of that fact in the very first sentence of the new TV spot for one of summer’s biggest movies. Leo playing a billionaire playboy? I buy it.
People have been waiting for this movie for years, and it appears that wait was not in vain. Given how much we all seem to care about following the lives of the rich and famous right now, the timing of Gatsby couldn’t be better. In this iteration, Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) is a writer instead of a bond salesman, and he’s going to get his big break by writing about the life and antics of Gastby. Essentially, Tobey Maguire is TMZ if they actually got to go to parties instead of just hiding next to famous people’s cars. Hopefully the movie ends with him yelling, “I’m a lawyer!”
